The Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum is a unique and exceptional facility and education center which gives its visitors the chance to learn about offshore oil and gas industry while being aboard a retired jack-up drilling rig. For someone unfamiliar with the drilling process, you will find all its exhibits interesting and fascinating.


The museum is a self-guided facility where visitors can get a hand of guidebooks available for purchase in the gift shop. For a more in-depth experience, visitors can also avail of an audio tour package. The Hall of Fame is one of the exhibits located within the museum which recognizes significant persons who took the industry to the sea. Some of the figures include the engineering giants, George and Herman Brown as well as Ralph Thomas McDermott who was the founder of the offshore drilling and platform construction company J. Ray McDermott. After taking a tour into the Hall of Fame exhibit, head on to the Pipe Deck where you can find equipments including a blowout preventer, drill pipe and a cementing unit. The Drill Floor is located underneath the oilrig and is where the work of drilling a hole is done.

There are lots of interesting things you can learn about the drilling process in the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum. Reservations are not required. You can just purchase tickets upon arrival at the Gift Shop. Generally, admission to the museum is $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. They are open daily from 10am to 5pm.
